We really enjoy working with our students to take the fear out of dealing with sudden collapse or an accident, giving them the skills they might need in their workplace.
Who it is for
Nominated workplace first aiders or anyone wanting a comprehensive introduction to first aid. We suggest you complete a risk assessment in line with the recent HSE changes to determine if it is for you.

Course Content
- Understanding the role of the first aider including reference to:
- the importance of preventing cross infection;
- the need for recording incidents and actions;
- use of available equipment;
- Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
- Administering first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
- Administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
- Administering first aid to a casualty who is choking;
- Administering first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
- Administering first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
- Recognising the onset of a serious head injury
- Providing appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds,
- Soft tissue injuries;
- Injuries to bones including suspected spinal injuries;
- Chest injuries;
- Burns and scalds;
- Eye injuries including how to irrigate an eye;
- Sudden poisoning and anaphylactic shock.

Assessment and Certification
After completing a final assessment successful candidates receive an HSE approved certificate valid for three years. A First Aid at Work Refresher course taken before the end of the 3 years will extend your certification for a further 3 years.
